CRANE
OPERATOR - ½ Day to 3 Days, DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE |

Aim

All
crane Operators shall be at least 21 years of age and be able
to read and understand English sufficiently to read and
understand the operating instruction manual and Load Charts.
They must also be physically fit with regards to
eyesight, hearing and reflexes.

Self
Discipline – including mental attitude towards crane
operation, and PPE requirements. Housekeeping and local
and international standards for safe use of cranes.

Rigging
Equipment – training are taken through basis rigging;
choosing equipment with the correct safe working load
(using load charts), attaching loads, Centres of Gravity,
maintaining a safe lift and also are given training in
awareness of Rigging & Slinging.
Also training is given on how to calculate sling
angles for various loads and sling selection for each.

Cranes
and their applications – this area covers operating the
crane and ensuring the individual is capable of doing so.
(Including major components, chassis’s,
outriggers, boom/jib section, hydraulic systems etc).

Safety
devices and Load Indicators – includes training to
ensure the operator understands all safety devices and
their relevant technical terms, (including load charts,
radius, jib length, actual load and load indicators.

Responsibilities
– the operator shall be responsible for correct safe
operation of the crane as per manufacturers instructions.
The operator shall be instructed on maintaining a
daily check list to identify faults before operation.
Training will be given on the importance of knowing
the weight of the load before the lift.
Training will be given on where the lift can or
cannot take place.
