• Understand the importance of safe working.

• Understand the roles and responsibilities of persons working within the PTW System.

• Be able to obtain information from the Permit to Work System.

• Be able to correctly identify which permit, if any, is required for a task.

• Understand the system of edge and face colours on the pages of the Work Permit forms.

• Understand the objectives of a Job Safety Plan.

• Understand the PTW System Certificates.

• Be able to accurately understand the information contained within a Permit, Job Safety Plan and Permit to Work System Certificate.

• Be able to produce a Job Safety Plan appropriate for the work.

• Be able to correctly identify mistakes or errors within a Permit, Job Safety Plan or Permit to Work System Certificate.

• Understand the purpose and use of the Permit Issue Point Rack and Permit Location Board.

• Demonstrate the correct procedure for applying/using mechanical isolations and de-isolations.  

• Understand the purpose for archiving permits.

• Be capable of fulfilling the duties and responsibilities, within the limits of the Permit to Work System, of a Permit Holder, Permit Applicant, Area Authority or Responsible Supervisor.

• Be capable of being licensed within the Permit to Work System.
